Nugenix Review - Does This "Free Testosterone Booster" Actually Work?

Nugenix Review – Does This “Free Testosterone Booster” Work?

*Updated February 2023.

Here’s our Nugenix review, also known as Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster and Nugenix Original. In this review, we’ll be taking a closer look at the ingredients, benefits, side effects, and dosage directions of Nugenix to see if it works as advertised and ultimately, whether it’s worth your time and money.

Nugenix Review Summary

Looking for a quick lowdown of key things about Nugenix? We’ve got you covered.

Nugenix is an all-natural supplement. It comes with a good dose of 3 capsules per day. It also contains some basic nutrients to support your general health as a man.

However, Nugenix comes with downsides that are hard to look past. The biggest problem is the lack of better ingredients that would make it more effective. Along with that, Nugenix is using a proprietary blend that doesn’t show the amounts of ingredients in it.

Pros

  • Natural ingredient formula
  • L-Citrulline boosts muscle pumps and blood flow throughout the body
  • Basic B vitamins for energy and general health
  • Fenugreek helps to maintain higher T levels, but at the cost of another important androgen hormone – DHT

Cons

  • Not the best supplement for long-term use due to Fenugreek’s effect on hormonal balance
  • Zinc dose is just 1mg, whereas the effective dose for testosterone boosting is at least 10mg
  • Omitted vitamin D, boron, and other core ingredients
  • Costs $57.99 per bottle, which feels too high for what it offers

What is Nugenix?

Nugenix is one of the most popular testosterone boosters around, especially in the USA.

It claims to be a “free testosterone booster” with clinically researched ingredients that will enhance your testosterone levels when combined with a resistance training routine.

Key benefits include:

  • Libido, performance, vitality, and drive
  • Improves strength
  • Enhances sex drive
  • Boosts free testosterone levels

As you’ve seen in the beginning of our review, Nugenix has omitted some of the most effective natural testosterone boosting ingredients from its formula. This naturally raises the question: will it work as well as it’s claimed to do?

Our team finds out.

Nugenix: Dosage Directions

The dosage instructions for Nugenix are to take 3 capsules per day with water on an empty stomach. If you find that this makes you nauseous or gives you other side effects, take it with food and see how you react. It’s also wise to start with just 1 capsule at first to assess your tolerance.

Most importantly, talk to your doctor before taking Nugenix if you have any kind of condition.

Ingredients in Nugenix

Nugenix Free Testosterone Booster Ingredients

The active ingredients in Nugenix are:

  • Vitamin B-6 (as Pyridoxine Hydrochloride) (2mg)
  • Vitamin B-12 (as Methylcobalamin) (50mcg)
  • Zinc (as Zinc Chelate) (1mg)
  • Nugenix® Free Testosterone Complex (2103mg), consisting of:
    • L-Citrulline Malate (unknown dosage)
    • Testofen® Fenugreek Seed Extract (50% Fenuside™) (unknown dosage)
    • Tribulus (fruit) (unknown dosage)

On the positive side, Nugenix contains some essential ingredients for testosterone. Including vitamins B6, B12, and the trace mineral zinc. However, zinc is underdosed, and there’s also a proprietary blend that hides the amounts of ingredients in it.

You’ll also notice there’s no vitamin D, magnesium, or other commonly seen ingredients in the best testosterone boosters.

Here’s a closer look.

Vitamin B-6

Vitamin B6 is one of the 8 essential B vitamins. It plays a role in neurology, energy production, and countless other processes in your body. One rat study found that vitamin B6 supplementation may assist in returning testosterone levels to normal range in rats who were deficient in vitamin.

Vitamin B-12

Vitamin B12 is another B vitamin critical to our health. One of its main functions is to support the production and transport of oxygen via your red blood cells. It’s unlikely to have any benefit unless you’re deficient in it, though. Vegans and elderly are most likely to be deficient, otherwise, you get enough of it through animal food sources.

Zinc Chelate

Zinc is a trace element that plays a role in various enzymatic reactions and biological processes, including the production of the hormone testosterone. Low zinc levels are linked to diminished T count. By contrast, having optimal zinc levels is shown to reduce the likelihood of dips in testosterone caused by physical stress, toxins, and other detrimental factors. Nugenix only has 1mg, 10% of the effective dose for testosterone boosting. [2]

Nugenix® Free Testosterone Complex

As you’ve seen above, this complex weighs 2103mg, and consists of 3 ingredients. We don’t know the doses of these ingredients – they’re masked within the blend.

As a result, it’s difficult to tell whether they are safely or effectively dosed. You can only guess. The ingredients themselves are a mixed bag. See for yourself:

  • L-Citrulline Malate – great for pre-workouts as it boosts muscle pumps and blood flow. We can understand why it was included in a testosterone booster as its blood-flow-boosting property might extend to penile blood flow, potentially leading to harder erections.
  • Testofen® Fenugreek Seed Extract (50% Fenuside™) – Fenugreek is the only ingredient in this blend that can boost testosterone. The way it does this is interesting. Instead of directly raising T levels, Fenugreek blocks the conversion of testosterone into another crucial anabolic hormone, DHT. Therefore, it has to sacrifice DHT in order to maintain higher T levels – which could, over the long-term, lead to hormonal imbalances.
  • Tribulus (fruit) – Tribulus is a plant with properties beneficial to your prostate. As far as testosterone boosting goes, studies show it’s ineffective. [1]

Nugenix Reviews and Testimonials

Nugenix reviews can be found on Amazon and other big websites like GNC. Here’s what some of the customers had to say about the product:

“I was skeptical about this product from the bad reviews, honestly only thing I feel is like rush similar to caffeine, I don’t know if this has caffeine in it . But it makes me feel very paranoid and like my heart pumping harder , idk it’s weird , would not buy again.” – Guillermo (Amazon Customer)

“My husband says it’s works great on him, but it takes a couple of weeks to take effect so you have to buy this all the time and it can get very expensive, if you need to stay on this product. Would buy it more often if it wasn’t so expensive.” – lbellino (Amazon Customer)

“Male . 72 yrs old. Nugenix gave me a little more energy, but nothing else it was advertised to do.” – Les Bogert (Amazon Customer)

Side Effects

Nugenix is free of harmful fillers or stimulants. As a result, it shouldn’t cause any adverse side effects for most people. While it does have undisclosed doses of several ingredients, the ingredients themselves are well-studied and not found to cause adverse reactions in most people.

That being said, there’s always a degree of risk as everyone is different. Nausea and headaches are common complaints in people who’re sensitive to Nugenix’s ingredients or take it inappropriately.

Cost, Where to Buy, and Other Things to Consider

Nugenix costs $57.99 on GNC. Since the dosage is 3 capsules per day, one bottle will last you a month. The price is one of the main complaints about this testosteorne booster – considering the lack of better ingredients, we can understand why.

You might be able to find Nugenix for a slightly lower price depending where you buy it. Nugenix is also available at Amazon, Walmart, Walgreens, CVS, and The Vitamin Shoppe. The only big store where Nugenix currently isn’t available is Costco.

Nugenix Review: The Bottom Line

Nugenix is a natural product with some solid ingredients. It contains L-Citrulline which will enhance your muscle blood flow and erections, along with some basic nutrients like B vitamins which support your general health.

That said, we don’t think it should be called Nugenix “Free Testosterone Booster,” as it has no ingredients that will help with this. The only 2 ingredients that could boost testosterone are zinc and Fenugreek – but the former is underdosed and the latter sacrifices another important anabolic hormone (DHT) to achieve this.

Vitamin D, magnesium, and other essential testosterone nutrients are missing. For the premium price you’ll be paying, it’s possible to find more effective options with some research.
