PhenGold Review: Is This Fat Burner Really As Good As They Say?

Here’s our PhenGold review. We’ll take you through the most important things you need to know about this natural fat burner supplement, starting with a brief summary of our report.

PhenGold is a fat burner supplement consisting of completely legal and (mostly) natural ingredients, including green tea extract, Rhodiola Rosea, and black pepper extract to help boost your metabolism and mental focus.

The manufacturers say you will experience these benefits from using Phengold:

  • Less Hunger
  • Increased body’s natural ability to burn fat

Their website has some promising reviews and customer testimonials. But, obviously, these can be easily manipulated. We’ll need to have our own say and look at other independent reviews to see if Phengold is really the right choice for you.

PhenGold: Dosage Directions

Phengold comes with the recommended dosage of 3 veggie capsules per day. You can take it without food, or with food if your stomach is sensitive to stimulants. In either case, make sure to drink plenty of water throughout the day to help your kidneys expel Phengold’s waste byproducts.

As you can see, all the ingredients and their doses are shown on Phengold’s label, which tells us there are no proprietary blends inside. This is excellent.

As for the ingredients themselves? We’ve got basic B vitamins for energy and metabolism, along with some well-known fat burners green tea and caffeine. There are also a few less common ingredients such as DMAE and Rhodiola Rosea which don’t have a lot of evidence pointing they can help with weight loss.

We’ve also noticed that Phengold doesn’t use any strong appetite suppressants, such as Glucomannan, a natural source of fiber that swells in your stomach and makes you feel full. So while this formula does look effective for direct fat burning at first glance, it seems to lack in some areas – particularly in the appetite suppression department.

Here’s a closer look:

Vitamin B3

Vitamin B3 is not the best ingredient choice for a fat burner. Why? Because, even though it plays an important role in maintaining our cardiovascular system, it’s been linked to aggravated insulin resistance when supplemented. Taking more of this vitamin than you need from your diet turns out to be counterproductive, according to current evidence. [1]

Vitamin B6

This B vitamin is a much better choice. As it’s involved in neurological functions and many other processes, vitamin B6 supplementation can help you feel sharper mentally. This benefit only comes if you aren’t getting enough vitamin B6 through your diet, however.

Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 plays a key role in the making of your red blood cells. [2] It’s one of the only B vitamins that is somewhat harder to get through food alone, because it’s mainly found in organ meats and eggs, which some people don’t consume. Also, as we get older, our absorption rates of vitamin B12 decreases.

Green Tea

Green tea is a very common fat burning ingredient, and for a good reason. It’s not only been shown to elevate our energy levels when training and doing tasks throughout the day. It also enhances your metabolic function – leading to faster conversion of fat into energy. [3]

L-Tyrosine

L-Tyrosine is a natural amino acid found in a foods such as chicken, fish, bananas, milk, and soy among many others. L-tyrosine won’t help you burn fat – at least not directly – but it will make you more resilient to stress. Specifically, tyrosine helps you stay concentrated and clear-headed in challenging and stressful everyday situations. For example, you might feel tired and burnt out from the day, and with that low willpower, you might want to snack on unhealthy foods. L-tyrosine gives you that little extra mental edge to fight off the craving. [4]

Rhodiola Rosea

Rhodiola is a natural adaptogenic, which means it helps your body better cope with stress. It also elevates you energy levels slightly. [5] Still, there aren’t many credible studies that have shown Rhodiola has a significant impact on weight loss. We think a proven appetite suppressant like Glucomannan would be better in its stead.

L-Theanine

L-Theanine is a calming amino acid found in mushrooms and some types of tea, such as green tea. It works to enhance your GABA brain receptors which are involved in inducing sleep and drowsiness. In other words, L-Theanine will make you more relaxed, canceling out some of caffeine’s negative side effects. [6]

Caffeine Anhydrous

Caffeine is a staple ingredient for a fat burner, and it’s good to see it here in Phengold. Although it’s dosed a bit too high for our liking (225mg per daily serving), caffeine will ramp up your energy levels unlike anything else. It’s the best natural stimulant out there. However, if you’re anything like me and you’re sensitive to caffeine’s aggressive effects, you may find this dose to cause you more jitters and other negative side effects than benefits. [7]

Cayenne Pepper Extract

Cayenne Pepper is a good choice. It works as a thermogenic, helping to elevate your body’s core temperature. This will result in you burning a few extra calories per hour. Not much, but when compounded with regular exercise and a good diet, it can give you an edge!

DMAE Bitartrate

DMAE is a child molecule of choline, which is a natural compound involved in many of your brain’s processes. DMAE may help support your long-term brain function, although you won’t be necessarily feeling it working.

Green Coffee Bean Extract

Green coffee bean is a coffee bean in its raw unroasted state. It’s a weak carb blocker. At best, it will help reduce energy and mood swings after eating a carb-dense meal. [8]

BioPerine Black Pepper Extract

BioPerine is here to improve digestion and enhance other ingredient’s absorption in your body. [9]. It is not the smartest choice since there are ingredients in Phengold like caffeine which are already heavily dosed. Enhancing them can only aggravate the negative side effects.

PhenGold Reviews and Testimonials

Phengold doesn’t have too many independent customer reviews online as it’s not available on Amazon and other popular website. We also haven’t found any impartial Phengold reviews on Reddit.

That being said, there are other critic reviews online and some of them praise Phengold for its effectiveness for boosting fat loss, while others don’t feel Phengold is one of the best fat burners around due to its lack of better appetite suppressants and other important ingredients.

Our Experience with PhenGold

We had 3 people from our staff trial PhenGol for 4 weeks – John-Alexander, Gabriela, and Luis. We maintained the same fitness routine as usual – 3 days of weightlifting and 1 HIIT day per week while eating a Mediterranean diet with an emphasis on proteins from lean meat, as well as olive oil, fish, and a modest amount of beans and whole-grain pasta. We did slip here and there, but that’s to be expected – nobody will be perfect on this journey! The most important thing is to be sticking to the rules most of the time.

Immediately after starting using Phengold, all three of us noticed our energy levels increase. Gabriela had to stop using Phengol early on in our trial as she couldn’t handle the aggressive dose of caffeine. Me and Luis kept going, and while both of us experienced a ‘crash’ as the caffeine wore off, we watched our caffeine intake from other sources to avoid crashing completely. Our biggest issue by far while using Phengold were food cravings, which the fat burner didn’t seem to reduce at all. After 4 weeks, at the end of the trial, Luis’ weight dropped by 2lbs while mine dropped only 0.8lbs. Luis’s face is usually the first to show signs of weight loss, however, he feels the little amount that he lost wasn’t worth the stimulant side effects.

Side Effects

If you’re used to high amounts of caffeine, then Phengold shouldn’t cause you any major negative side effects. If on the other hand you don’t tolerate caffeine very well, then 225mg of the stimulant per serving that’s found in Phengold can cause:

  • Irritability
  • Insomnia
  • Restlessness
  • Heart palpitations
  • High blood pressure
  • Excessive sweating

Cost, Where to Buy, and Other Things to Consider

You can currently only buy Phengold from its official website. Phengold sells worldwide including to the UK, Australia, Canada, and South Africa.

Now for the bad news… Phengold costs a whopping $64.95 for a month’s supply, which is more than most of the fat burners on the market – even the ones we currently rate as the most effective.

Is it worth the money? We do think better value can be found with more research, but ultimately, it’s your call!

PhenGold Review: The Bottom Line

Phengold is a fairly expensive weight loss supplement that consists of a few well-known fat burning ingredients: caffeine, green tea, and cayenne pepper. It also contains a good dose of mental enhancers such as Rhodiola and L-Tyrosine to help you be more focused throughout the day.

However, Phengold is lacking a better appetite suppressant, and other proven natural fat burning ingredients like chromium to help balance your blood sugar levels throughout the day. It also only has a single serving of 3 capsules taken all at once, which limits its effects between doses. The best fat burners use 3-4 daily servings spread evenly throughout the day for continuous fat burning effects.

For the price of $65 for a month’s supply, we do think you can find better value for money elsewhere.
